Lessons On My Pillow: Greatest Love

Do you remember that old but precious Whitney Houston's song titled greatest love? Great lyrics, awesome voice you will say, but more than that, that is about the deepest song have ever heard, but if you have not walked through some paths, you may not really understand the message.

Yes, we should, in fact, we must love those around us, it is not something we may do, loving others is something we have to do. But then, what is the greatest love? Is it the love of man to his wife, parents to their children, love between siblings, or that of neighbor to neighbor? All these are great, but they aren't the greatest.

Have you ever wondered why God commanded the Israelites to love their neighbors AS themselves? Why not just 'love your neighbor'? Because the first duty they have is to love themselves. We may want to be so spiritual all we want, but the measure of love you've learn to give to yourself will determine the level of love you can show to others.

Self love is a weapon in time of challenges. In the moment of darkness, when all you can see is you on an unknown part, self love can keep you going, you know why?
Because you believe in you, you believe in strength you can't feel, and a future you can't see. If all you do is loving others and neglecting yourself in the process, what happens when they are no longer there? What happens when they are taken or they decide to walk away?

Oh! The anguish and torment you feel when those you depend on are nowhere to be found in time of trouble, when your strength fails you and onward you can no longer go. When your heart is broken and you drink your tears like you drink water. When life is tasteless and your world colourless...yea, that moment all hope seems to be lost. Something can give you strength, courage to go on, and lightens your part...SELF LOVE.

When you love someone you love to spend time with them right? When you love you, you also spend time with you, it is called 'me time', enjoy your own company and stop looking up to others for fun and excitement. You believe in them? Believe in you too, you cherish them? Cherish yourself too, you forgive them? Forgive you when you go wrong.

Will that make you selfish or self obsessed? Nay! Rather it will make you more productive in the 'business' of love giving cause a better you is a better love for those around you... Remember, love them, but never forget yourself.

Don't invest all in others without keeping some for yourself, because when they are gone, all you will be left with will be YOU.
