Before I make a costly assumption about the previous
knowledge and thoughts of my audience I will like to make a brief introduction
on the personality of the Holy Spirit (with few biblical references I know).
• He is the Spirit of God (Gen 1:2b) “And the Spirit of God
moved upon the face of the waters”. This point is however important contrary to
the believe of some denomination that it must have been a spirit created as the
angels out of the self will of God to fulfil a certain purpose.
• The Holy Spirit is God Himself intended by His will to
remain in man: (Gen 2:7)“And the LORD God formed man of the dust of the ground,
and breathed into his nostrils the breath of life; and man became a living
soul.” For earth is His footstool, but in His wisdom has He choose to dwell in
the heart of men. Also John1:4 “In him was life; and the life was the light of
men.”
• The Holy Spirit has been in existence since the Old
Testament: Psalm 51:11 “Cast me not away from thy presence; and take not thy
Holy Spirit from me.” This same spirit the scripture bear record of it been
poured on Samson, Moses, David, King Saul (especially when he prophesied before
Samuel), Samuel (has it was said of him: and the whole Israel know the Lord was
with him for everything he said come to pass) etc…
It goes on, but believers have cleared the air concerning
some major controversial issues amidst brethren.
As vividly taught by the Master himself in John 16:8-15 “8
And when he is come, he will reprove the world of sin, and of righteousness,
and of judgment: {reprove: or, convince} 9 Of sin, because they believe not on
me; 10 Of righteousness, because I go to my Father, and ye see me no more; 11
Of judgment, because the prince of this world is judged. 12 I have yet many
things to say unto you, but ye cannot bear them now. 13 Howbeit when he, the
Spirit of truth, is come, he will guide you into all truth: for he shall not
speak of himself; but whatsoever he shall hear, that shall he speak: and he
will shew you things to come. 14 He shall glorify me: for he shall receive of
mine, and shall shew it unto you. 15 All things that the Father hath are mine:
therefore said I, that he shall take of mine, and shall shew it unto you.”
From these verses, we can point out particularly the
following:
Reprove the world of
sin
Reprove the world of
righteousness
Reprove the world of
judgement
Guide us into all
truth
He shall glorify God
a) Reprove the world (you and I) of sin: we should first
know the conscience differ from the Holy Spirit. When a man is born again, the
conscience becomes a more useful instrument in the hand of the Holy Spirit.
Even before man got born of the spirit, the conscience reprove man for wrong
doings based on conscious environmental law. But Holy Spirit will reprove
according to the heavenly order which override the environmental and moral
principles. Human conscience will make you acceptable/accountable to fellow
human most times, but Holy spirit makes you acceptable in this life and life to
come especially when He reprove you of the evil nature of the old man.
Halleluyah! The Holy Spirit work it out in man by believing on Jesus Christ and
teaching on love as a “golden rule/law” than the law of man. Recall Gal 5:22-23
“But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, longsuffering, gentleness,
goodness, faith, 23 Meekness, temperance: against such there is no law.”
b) Reprove the world of righteousness:
the righteousness of god is attained when we believe in the
existence, power and reality of God, also submitting to it. Rom 10:10a “For with
the heart man believeth unto righteousness;.” John 16:10 “Of righteousness,
because I go to my Father, and ye see me no more;” Even if we don’t see God,
believing He is and a rewarder of those who diligently seek Him. Now I want you
to know that to the natural man, believing in what is not seen is foolishness,
but what else can make a man jump from the east all to the south because of
what is not physical? Too abstract! What can make a man rejoice in the Holy
Ghost? You know those feelings we had in the heart when we got born again, see
miracles, praying and singing in the Holy Ghost etc.
aaahyaaya! You all know now. These are never natural but you
know what Rom 5:5 says…. “And hope maketh not ashamed; because the love of God
is shed abroad in our hearts by the Holy Ghost which is given unto us.” By the
Holy Ghost! Yes, by the Holy Ghost, the love of God is so much shed abroad in
our hearts.
c) Reprove the world of judgement:
The Holy Spirit won’t leave us alone to serve satan all
because of our misdeeds for He already knows the end (eternal destruction in
hell) if we should continue with him; that’s the depth of God’s love for us. He
does not want us to perish, thus he consistently remind us of our hope and
glory ready to be revealed in us at the last day. Constantly giving us a firm
assurance of the heavenly home.
From this point I thus say if you are the type that heavenly
calling, home, resurrection, rapture, Jesus, in general matters of the kingdom
does not really interest you or excite you anymore, frankly speaking, you have
lost touch with the Holy Ghost or perhaps haven’t got Him at all in the first
place. Repent and fall before God flat to reinstate Himself inside that empty
thing you call body.
d) Guide us into all truth: the truth can only be found in
God, that’s why Jesus said in vs. 14b “for he shall receive of mine, and shall
shew it unto you.” at most times, you may be disappointed to find deceit in
men, it’s their nature. Until you are true and purged of all deceit of the
natural man, the Holy Spirit will continue to deliberately lead you into the
truth. He Himself is truth and no deceit in Him; He will train you and I into
His person but He requires that we deliberately and consistently yield to His
method. “The level a spiritual man his today is proportional to his level of
obedience to the gentle still voice of the Holy Spirit instrumentality.” We
will constantly attain a level of integrity of words before man and God! He
will surely reveal the mind of God (truth) over every matter even when we prove
stubborn to ask. That’s just His nature. He won’t deny himself within us but
rather face us squarely and frankly with the truth, even though it may hurt as
we begin to grow by yielding to it, because the flesh and spirit always lust
against one another; always at war (hope we recall this scripture?). Let all
men be liars, let them believe not….. “if we are faithless (believe not), yet
He abides faithful: he cannot deny Himself” 2Tim 2:13. Let’s all check John
14:17 on our own please…
e) He shall glorify God: …chaiii...this is a point I fear
most. Do you remember the escapades of Samson, even after wallowing so much in
disobedience, strong headedness, believing so much in himself? He still
gathered about 300 foxes tail to tail setting them on fire to make them mad,
dangerous, furious etc. but that was after he disobeyed God oooo… Remember he
tore the mouth of that lion even after he disobeyed God. As a Nazerene who
ought not to have anything to do with the carcass of dead animal, according to
the sanctification order of God, he took honey out of it and ate.
What a great
sacrilege! He went in with a harlot, a godless woman, and after all has been
done, he could still pull out the gate, place it on the shoulder, up the
mountain he went (I myself can’t imagine it), but it’s not a myth but a
reality. But it was not just Samson, it was the spirit of God upon him, it was
for the glory of God to be kept without reproach from men. God had ordained
Samson from the womb. The name of God cannot be mocked, not even if you decide
to backslide as a result of circumstances and put the name God in mud, the
glory of God will yet be revealed.
Let’s not be too carried away when we minister with or
without charisma but with authority and power thinking, yes we are approved of
God while the Holy Spirit is reproving us of sin, righteousness, and judgement
after our manner of life which totally negate God’s will and purpose. Alas,
it’s for the glory of God! Remember most times “For the gifts and calling of
God are without repentance.” Rom 11:29 and “He restoreth my soul: he leadeth me
in the paths of righteousness for his name's sake.” Especially for His name
sake. Psalm 23:3
PAUL EPEXEGESIS ON THE IN-WORKING OF THE HOLY SPIRIT
1) Now the Lord is that Spirit: and where the Spirit of the
Lord is, there is liberty. 2Cor 3:17
This again affirm the Lord God Himself as the spirit and I
wonder most times when men begin to teach that God, Jesus and Holy Spirit are
three separate entities. I wonder where they also throw 1Tim 3:16 “And without
controversy great is the mystery of godliness: God was manifest in the flesh,
justified in the Spirit, seen of angels, preached unto the Gentiles, believed
on in the world, received up into glory.” Well….to we that understand the
triune nature of God, let’s move on.
There are countless bondage/yoke the devil have in store for
those without the Holy Spirit, which cut across fear of tomorrow, death,
diabolical powers (don’t tempt God), past sins, law etc. but where God His
present, every barrier will be put on hold.
Everything was
created by Him, for Him and through Him alone all come to exist.
The future is in Gods
hand Jer 29:11, we thus approach it with hope by the working of the Holy Spirit
out within us.
If we live by the
Spirit, consciously or unconsciously we would live above the law of man “But if
ye be led of the Spirit, ye are not under the law.” Gal 5:18.
Dying to you will
only become a gain, living would be for Christ. A transition into a better life
entirely (but don’t commit suicide for it is a sin) etc.
2) But we all, with open face beholding as in a glass the
glory of the Lord, are changed into the same image from glory to glory, even as
by the Spirit of the Lord. {by the...: or, of the Lord the Spirit} 2Cor 3:18.
As by the Spirit of God we are changed from glory to glory
to the same image of the son He wants us to be. We behold as just we look
ourselves in the mirror (but this won’t be non-superimposable but
superimposable (chemist in the house will relate). We become so similar, very
united.
3) For it is God which worketh in you both to will and to do
of his good pleasure. Phil 2:18 …..
Based on our yielding, we will continually
become like Jesus through our submission.
4) The Spirit of God in us bear witness with our spirit that
we are the son of God. The moment we begin to doubt our sonship in God, there
is sure a fire on the mountain. You can’t possibly administer a drug you don’t
believe is a cure, will you? Then I doubt if God will acknowledge you are a
son/heir if yet you don’t believe. Watch out for these symptoms, it’s a clear
signal that an aspect of our life does not agree with that of Jesus.
5) The spirit also groan in divine intercession within us
that carry Him for we know not what we should pray about.
6) Luke the physician also gave an account in Acts 3 about
Peter, he was a coward before but the Holy Spirit made Him bold as lion making
great harvest for the kingdom. That’s just is in working in men.
IN CONCLUSION: the greatest instrument in the creation of
God was man. Until we all begin to know how much of God we carry within us, we
will forever be limited in our exploits in life. A life without this promise
(Holy Spirit) is empty. A life with that never works by His instruction is
worse than an infidel, condemned than the ungodly.
The chance is still open for as many that will believe and
receive Him into their lives today. Confess your sins and submit to the wisdom
of God through Jesus to redeem you from sin and eternal death and have the seal of the Holy Spirit till the day of
redemption (Eph 1:13-14). Shalom!
